Don’t let pain bring you to your knees.


The knee is a complex structure. It consists of bones, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, muscles and bursas—fluid-filled sacs. With every bend or step they work together to stabilise and support what is a very important joint. Awkward twists, movements, falls and collisions can result in a range of injuries that may result in the need for treatment.

Knee problems are not uncommon. It is estimated that one in five women and only slightly less men suffer from knee pain. In the last fifteen years there has also been a 70 per cent increase in the number of young Australians who undergo reconstructive surgery on their knees, with the greatest increase coming in children under the age of 14.

So what should you do if you—or you children—are suffering from knee pain? ‘Grin and bear it’ and ‘play through the pain’ may seem like the right thing to do, but they rarely are and, in particular, any pain your children are experiencing definitely needs to be checked out by a health professional.
