The Pilates method was established in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates. It is a system of exercises that uses specialised equipment designed to improve strength, flexibility, posture and mental awareness.
The main focus of Pilates is to reinforce the importance of mind to control all body movements, ensuring the correct muscles are involved in each movement.
Pilates focuses on strengthening the core muscles – particularly the transverse abdominus and pelvic floor muscles. These core muscles are important for providing stability for your spine, pelvis and hips, allowing you to move with much greater control and balance.
