28 Jul Tips For Staying Active This Winter
Why staying active during the cold weather benefits you!
In its Physical Activity Guidelines, the Government recommends adults aged between 18 and 64 should accumulate 150 to 300 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity, each week.
In the summer, when the sun is shining and everything in the world feels good, there are so many ways to exercise. But when the days shorten and the temperature drops, the idea of exercise can test even the most motivated of athletes. On those cold, winter days, it’s likely you’ll want to do little more than sit in front of the fire.
But, if you can force yourself outside, you’ll find that there is even more benefit to exercise on cold days than on warm ones. That’s because your body has to work harder to stay warm, and working harder means expending more calories. Remember too that moderate physical activity includes walking so, if it’s not raining, wrap yourself up and head out on a walk, perhaps even go as a family. And if it is raining then bear in mind that even walking around the shopping mall counts as moderate activity!
