Why staying active during the cold weather benefits you!

Tips For Staying Active This Winter

In its Physical Activity Guidelines, the Government recommends adults aged between 18 and 64 should accumulate 150 to 300 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity, or 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous activity, each week.

In the summer, when the sun is shining and everything in the world feels good, there are so many ways to exercise. But when the days shorten and the temperature drops, the idea of exercise can test even the most motivated of athletes. On those cold, winter days, it’s likely you’ll want to do little more than sit in front of the fire.

But, if you can force yourself outside, you’ll find that there is even more benefit to exercise on cold days than on warm ones. That’s because your body has to work harder to stay warm, and working harder means expending more calories. Remember too that moderate physical activity includes walking so, if it’s not raining, wrap yourself up and head out on a walk, perhaps even go as a family. And if it is raining then bear in mind that even walking around the shopping mall counts as moderate activity!

You could also come into Relinque Sports and Spinal Group for a Pilates session. Our modern, spacious and fully equipped studio is a great place to work on your fitness and strength under the guidance of our experienced instructors. And while you’re at it, consider a massage. It’s a great way to promote healing and relaxation in your body.

If you really can’t imagine life beyond the front door, there’s still hope. There are plenty of exercise videos that you can find online to help you do exactly that. Some of them, you can even do in front of the television.

Whatever you do, try and stay active. Keeping active is a good way to lift your mood, improve your energy and sleep patterns, and relieve stress. Book your appointment today with one of our skilled Pilates instructors – at Relinque Sports & Spinal Group we have a range of Pilates classes to suit everyone this winter!
